Some things to know:
Thank you for stopping by, my name is Heather and yoga has transformed my life! I have practiced yoga for more than 25 years and was first drawn to the practice by the beauty of movement I saw in the poses. I have a life-long dance background and when I saw and practiced yoga, I saw and felt a beautiful dance.
I have also spent my adult years working full-time within corporate America's "hurry-fast-now" mentality. It took me a while to come to recognize that my life and the way I was living it were contributing to my state of unwellness. I now know that I have been living in my sympathetic nervous system an as a result, I have suffered from digestive disorders, insomnia, anxiety, and other stress-related issues.
The more I practiced yoga, the more I wanted to know about the "heart" of yoga - the aspects that weren't physical. I took a teacher training program and along the way I was introduced to, and fell in love with, meditation and philosophy. A meditation-based yoga practice has changed the way that I deal with the stressors in my life AND it has changed the way my body reacts to those stressors. I am now a certified yoga instructor and not only am I honored to share what I have learned, but I believe that I have a responsibility to do so!
I am trained in the YogaWorks method, which is inspired by both Iyengar and Ashtanga. I teach public, private and corporate yoga and meditation and my teachings focus on self-awareness and safety. I am a forever student and my study, practice, and teachings are bathed in Sri Vidya Tantra. I teach various styles of yoga and especially enjoy teaching beginners and those wishing to revisit the basics. I have been gifted with amazing teachers and mentors and I am honored to carry their light!
I am an avid runner and I coach various running teams in the Richmond, VA area. I travel every single chance I get, I try to laugh even more, I love boxers (can you tell??), I love the snow AND the sun equally and I really, truly, and deeply believe in my heart and soul that Hawaii is heaven on earth.
Yoga is not just postures; yoga is state of being and a lifestyle. The true gift of yoga is that it has the potential to reawaken in you YOUR truth, bringing with it equal amounts of self-awareness and methods to achieve inner peace - posture is just the beginning. Try it....there's a class for everyone...just ask!
